Sandbox Restore does not work

    Hello All,

    Not sure if anyone else has experienced this issue but I will attempt to explain :
    Monday morning I created 2 new entities and added lookup fields into the account and Work Order entities to my new entities.
    This created new entities, relationships with Account and Work Order and also lookup fields in the Account and Work Order Entity.
    Nothing spectacular here...

    On Tuesday I realised that my new entity was fundamentally wrong and would not fit the customer requirements.
    So....  and here's where it gets fun....
    I went into the instance manager and restored Sandbox from Sunday night's backup.
    so far so good...
    until....
    After the restore had complete, attempting to modify or create data in the Account or Work Order entities returned errors that the fields I had created on Monday did not exist.  (why would they I asked myself)....

    It appears that the SQL database element had fully restored (no new fields here).
    However... The schema for the default solution still contained my new fields and new entities....  Couldn't delete them, couldn't republish... broke!

    I have since restored back to Monday night and manually unpicked, but fundamentally scared that a restore does not restore DB & Schema.

    and in-case this was a weird restore... I tried this 3 times with different Sandbox backups... same issue.  I tried restoring Production backup into sandbox (that was even worse!!!)

    Oh... and after restoring to Sunday, I created a single field...
    After restoring Monday, the system was broke as it expected this field.  (Fortunately I created in prod, exported and imported to fix).

    hope you managed to get to the end of this post, but seems quite worrying to me that a restore does not work.

    That does indeed sound bad.

    I think you should log a support call with Microsoft.

    Fortunately it looks like whatever the issue was, it has now been resolved.  No response on the root cause as yet.

    Having spoken to a few people in the community, sounds like this may have been a known issue with V9 tenant backups and restores... maybe that's why it got resolved so quickly.
