At Microsoft, we understand that in the current economic climate you are being asked to enhance your business by leveraging as much data as possible to make critical business decisions in an efficient, precise and effective manner. Microsoft is pleased to offer a 1-day Business Intelligence workshop, FREE of charge, to our enterprise accounts. The goal is to help you understand how to gain business insight into your data by leveraging various Microsoft technologies. At the end of the day, you will know how to create and share reports in a self-service manner with little to no technical expertise. The entire discussion is based on easily creating, slicing and dicing reports. In this session we will cover how to:
Logistics for Power BI Dashboard in a Day This workshop is the best way to learn about Microsoft Power BI tools and technologies and puts the participant in the driver's seat. We do require each participant to bring their own laptop to use for this event. Prerequisites: Exposure to data warehouse concepts and business intelligence tools is essential for maximum benefit from this workshop. This session will use new tools Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service. Pre-configured Set-up:
Bring your own laptop computer (EG: At the class I attended, they had a few "loaners")
Internet connectivity: You must be connected to the Internet
At minimum, a computer with 2-cores and 4GB RAM running on one of the following versions of Windows: Windows 7, Windows 8, (64-bit preferred), Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 or Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012/R2Microsoft Power BI Desktop requires Internet Explorer 10 or greater
Verify if you have 32bit or 64bit operating system to decide if you need to install the 32bit or 64bit applications Search for computer on you PC, right click properties for your computer
You will be able to identify if you operating system is 64 or 32 bit based on "system type"
The version of Office you have can also dictate which version of Power BI Desktop you should use. A 64bit OS allows you to use a 64bit version of Office but if you have a 32bit Office then it is a 32bit Power BI Desktop you will need.
Have admin rights on the day of the workshop or work with your IT prior to the workshop to get Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service downloaded. (See below for more about downloads)Downloads & Installs
Download and install Power BI desktop and Microsoft Power BI Personal Gateway from https://powerbi.microsoft.com/downloads. Please choose appropriate 64-bit or 32-bit version depending on your platform. Microsoft Power BI Desktop is available for 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) platforms.
Signup for Power BI Service: Got to www.powerbi.com and sign up for Power BI with a business email address. If you cannot sign up for Power BI, let the instructor know. If you have an existing account, please go to http://app.powerbi.com and Sing in using your Power BI account.
