Repost from Avalara The midyear update to our annual sales tax changes report takes stock of what’s transpired in the world of sales tax since the start of the year. It also introduces emerging trends. There’s often a surprise or two — a change we didn’t see coming — but we’ve never seen anything like the first half of 2020.   COVID-19 The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic brought brick-and-mortar commerce to a screeching halt in much of the world. At the same time, it caused a spike in online sales (consumers told to stay at home needed to stock up on essentials somehow). Some businesses fought to fill orders, others struggled to stay solvent, and ...

In a previous post, I showed how to  set up security from the user interface . In this post I want to focus on D365FO security setup and configuration from the AOT. Finding the AOT The first thing we have to know is where the AOT is located in D365FO. In a development environment, the AOT can be accessed by RDP-ing to virtual machine where the AOS is hosted. On that machine will be a modified version of Visual Studio, under the View menu option you will find the Application Explorer (can also be launched by hitting Ctrl + E). This will bring us to the AOT we are all familiar with. Under the Security heading you will be able to find all roles, ...

I’ve written in the past about  Dynamics 365 for Finance & Operations Security  and how it differs from previous versions of Dynamics AX, now it’s time to look at how to set up security within the application. I will show how to do this from the user interface (in this post) and from the AOT (in a follow up post) while giving pro’s and con’s of each. Setting up security in the user interface To set up security from the user interface, log into D365FO and navigate to System Administration -> Security Configuration. After navigating here you will be presented with a similar screen to the one below, I’ve broken the screen down into different sections ...

When implementation is over, the real ERP life begins Data security,   system effectiveness ,   platform functionality , and   fully operational business . These four main benefits are also threats of having   Enterprise Resource Planning in the cloud . During the implementation process the company is fully focused on the secure migration of data and adjusting standard ERP packages to the business needs. Dedicated projects, many people involved, hours of tests conducted. All efforts seem to make implementation risks minimized. Yet, right after the long-awaited “go-live”, businesses realize that there’s also an   “ERP life”.   Often neglected or ...

There are a lot of questions about security in D365FO and how it differs from previous versions of AX. If we look specifically at user permissions we can see a couple of things that have changed. In AX the access level is hierarchy based with one access level being assigned to each object: No Access -> Read -> Update -> Create -> Correct -> Delete (Full Control) An excerpt from an MSDN  on the topic has the following: "Read is the weakest permission, and Delete is the strongest. Delete permission includes every other permission. Create permission includes Update and Read. You can set the permission value to NoAccess to prevent all access ...

Manufacturers today can no longer afford to ignore the challenges that their sector faces but need to deal with and overcome them proactively. The main difficulties that industrial equipment manufacturers can  come across include an incomplete view of their profitability, lack of insight into supply chain, and the means to collaborate productively across the various stakeholders. The usual response of manufacturers is to install an ERP system to access these functionalities. While this is a commendable first step, it may not hold the complete solution. What you need is to add an enhancer that will provide you the specific functionalities you need as an industrial ...
