The new Dynamics AX has been available for select organizations like SAGlobal via the Microsoft early adopter (TAP) program, and is planned for general release in the first quarter of 2016.
By participating in the TAP program, we not only got early access to the new AX7 software code many, many months before anyone else, but also direct access to the Microsoft R&D and support teams to help us with our implementation. Our motivation to become an early adopter of AX7 was not only an opportunity to “eat our own dog food”, but also a chance to get ahead of any learning curve that might be involved in deploying the new Dynamics AX solution for our clients.
Since AX7 is designed first and foremost to support native cloud deployments, our new Dynamics AX system runs in the Microsoft Azure cloud. This has helped us to simplify our IT operations, become more agile, and minimize our IT costs. Microsoft has announced that an on-premise version of the new Dynamics AX will be available in the second half of 2016.
As a global, multi-country services organization, SAGlobal has deployed the Microsoft Dynamics AX™ Service Industries solution, which provides a comprehensive industry solution for professional services businesses. This solution allows project-based organizations to manage their finances, projects, clients, and resources all in a single, easy-to-use software system.
Here’s a quick snapshot of our new time entry system.
The new Microsoft Dynamics AX™ offers a modern HTML5 browser-based user interface, a new Microsoft Office 365™ look and feel, embedded business intelligence via Microsoft PowerBI™, and next generation application lifecycle management tools through Lifecycle Services. By offering the ability to natively leverage other Microsoft Azure™ cloud services such as Azure Machine Learning, Microsoft Dynamics AX has the potential to revolutionize how organizations deploy and utilize ERP software.
Here’s a quote from our Group CFO, Brian Lounds, on our implementation:
“As SAGlobal has continued to expand our global footprint and our volume of multi-national client projects has increased, it has become critical that we utilize an integrated global project management platform that will help our distributed team better collaborate and execute our projects in a consistent manner,” explained Brian Lounds, Group CFO for SAGlobal. “Microsoft Dynamics AX™ provides an industry solution that has allowed us to automate and streamline key project-related business processes such as time and expense management and billing. And because it is deployed in the cloud, we’re able to minimize the overhead associated with maintaining our ERP system. Fortunately, our experience implementing Microsoft Dynamics AX™ for other global professional services organizations has made it possible for us to be a successful early adopter of this technology as part of Microsoft’s TAP program.”
We’ll be talking a lot more about our implementation as we get closer to the official launch of the new Microsoft Dynamics AX™ over the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please reach out to us at
